McDade Trail
The Joseph M. McDade
Recreational Trail is a planned recreational trail
which, when completed, will extend for 37 miles on the
Pennsylvania side of the Delaware Water Gap National
Recreation Area. The completed McDade Trail will follow
the banks of the Delaware River in Pennsylvania from
Milford to Delaware Water Gap (north to south). The
McDade Trial will connect with Dingmans Campground,
passing right in front of our beautiful campground
store.
Recreational
opportunities on the McDade Trail will span all seasons,
with hiking, biking and bird watching opportunities
through spring, summer and fall, and cross country
skiing and snow shoeing in the winter months. In
addition, the trail will pass over several creeks with
spectacular waterfall attractions within hiking distance
of the trail to the west. Dingmans Campground is
situated in an ideal location for visitor enjoyment of
the McDade Recreational Trail, with the Milford Beach
Access 9 miles to the north and the Bushkill Access 12
miles to the south.
Two segments of the
McDade Trail have been completed and are currently open
for public use:
• A 5.0 mile segment along River Road from the
Hialeah Picnic Area to the Turn Farm Trailhead.
• A 2.7 mile segment from Milford Beach to the
Pittman Orchard at Raymondskill Creek.
Three additional
1 mile segments are under construction and
nearing completion:
• From Bushkill Creek to the south side of
Randall Creek (no bridge over Randall Creek).
• From the north side of Randall Creek to Valley
View Campground.
• From Route 739 to the Adams Creek parking area
(including bridge over Adams Creek - biking
photos on this page are from this segment of
trail).

The National Park
Service started construction of the McDade Trail
at Dingmans Campground in October 2007, heading
south for about 1 mile. We are hopeful that by
Summer 2008, several miles of the McDade Trial
will be directly accessible from Dingmans
Campground!
